Tara literally means right aim for liberation. Green Tara is representation of the entire enlightened activities of absolute Buddha charya (Buddhahood). Hence Green Tara is called the primitive source of inspiration to the enlightenment action of Buddhahood. Green Tara is known as "ma" progeny source of Buddha for three dimensional an eon (past, present and future). Tara is regarded as Prajna (wisdom) of Amoghsiddhi. Green Tara is the embodiment of air element and thus painted on green in color. Green Tara is also called Irsyarati or the embodiment of jealous nature. When the defilement jealousy is transmitted, it becomes all accomplishing wisdom. It is called Krityanusthan Jnana or the knowledge of performing act. Advayavajra Samgraha records Tara as to be originated from the seed of syllable "Tam" of golden green color. Her recognition symbol is a Nilopata (blue lotus). Green Tara belongs to the karma (action) family. Green Tara is described in the iconographic text as having two arms with Abhaya (protection) and Varada (bestowing) posture and seated on Lalitasana. She wears the Patamukuta (floral coronal) beautiful headdress studded with the Kum Kum flower. |
